What do you do to keep young people out of trouble?
This is usually the first question
that people ask us regarding our work with young people. And young people
everywhere are exposed to all kinds of activities that we wish they would not get
involved in. The easiest thing to do is to give them the chance to be involved
in things that are not harmful to them and yet keep them occupied and busy. The
Sunday Soccer program was started with this goal in mind. If you give kids
the opportunity to participate in clean fun, they will avoid other types of “fun”
that can be found in the streets.
What do you do?
Every Sunday LACES rents two small soccer fields that can also serve
as basketball courts. Anywhere from 20 to 50 kids regularly participate in
this activity. Not only do you give kids the opportunity to have fun and run
around for 2 hours, you also give them the opportunity to make friends with their
peers. Having friends is also another invaluable tool for keeping kids out
of trouble!
For the
year 2008, supporters of Nancy Brice from California
have paid for this activity.
