School Feeding Program
The first challenge that needed a solution in the area of education for the poor
is nutrition. You can not teach a hungry and malnourished child.
LAces provides a simple basic breakfast, a daily multivitamin and a complete, nutritionally balanced hot lunch for each student at no cost to the students or their families. The teaching staff also eats with the students at breakfast and lunch.
The Escuela Integrada school makes a big difference in the lives of these poor children
and their families. The following meal service is accomplished every month:
- more than 6,500 complete hot lunches and hot breakfast snacks are served. - more
than 260 pounds of tomatoes, 190 pounds of potatoes, 190 pounds of onions have been
used in the food served. - more than 235 pounds of chicken and meat have been used
in the food served. These figures are for a typical month! For a nine month period
in 2006 (January thru September), Escuela Integrada prepared and served over 55,000
complete hot lunches and hot breakfast snacks.
We have distributed hundreds and hundreds of pairs of shoes -- thousands of pounds
of clothes, school supplies, and food stuffs for use at home as well.
