Conference Ministry
Patzun and 30 Surrounding Villiages
In indigenous communities illiteracy is even higher around 50% for men and it can
be as high as 80—90% for women. Many local church leaders struggle to read.
Additionally Bibles and teaching materials
are in Spanish, their second language.
Other church leaders (elders, deacons, women’s leaders, those who teach children
and young people) are even more limited in their preparation for service.
Through the Conference Ministry, these leaders can receive basic, sound biblical
education. It is presented in a format
and manner that is easily received and can be taken back to their home villages
and churches. Many social / medical
/ humanitarian topics are taught as well.
The site of these conferences alternates between the indigenous city of Patzún and
the local villages in the Patzún region one Thursday a month.
The conferences start at 9:00 am and a full lunch is made for all in attendance
to close. Donations are given to the
hosting church and women’s committee which graciously prepares the food.
Many guest speakers from the States have participated in this program.
